More About Montessori

Dr Maria Montessori concluded that children are motivated to learn, by teaching themselves, while a carefully prepared environment and specially designed equipment is provided to stimulate the senses. Children should be offered the freedom of choice and should be allowed to move freely around in the classroom while choosing from a wide range of hands-on, age-appropriate activities that are designed to refine specific skills. “What the hand does, the mind remembers” - Maria Montessori

These activities researched and designed by Dr Montessori help children in learning concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a love of education and knowledge-seeking. Little People’s Place Montessori Centre’s aim is to create a calm, safe, child-centred learning environment where each child can explore and learn at his/her own pace.

In a typical Montessori environment, as learning develops, the materials range from simple to complex and from concrete to abstract, catering towards every child’s age and ability. Children can choose their own work, but it does not mean there isn’t any structure. The classroom and programs are well structured and offers safe boundaries for the children to explore within. “A child needs freedom within limits” - Maria Montessori

Like Montessori’s Philosophy, our ECD Centre also has a range of ages learning together, typically 18 months – 3-year olds, and 3 – 6-year olds are together in a classroom. Children are encouraged to help and learn from each other. The aim is also to create a non-competitive learning environment where positive social interaction and cooperative learning is encouraged.

At Little People’s Place Montessori Centre your child will receive a steadfast foundation, the building block for future learning.
